JO'S CONSTANT CRAVING

A night of queerly re-imagined tunes from the Dyke Canon.

Alongside long-time collaborator Ada Westfall and a full band (Lila Blue, Noga Cabo, Simone Acosta, Rosa Avila, Aliya Ultan), Jo will present an evening of re-orchestrated cover songs from within the Dyke Canon, fusing together music from queer elders and contemporaries to tell the sonic story of Jo's own queer coming-to.

Diving into this diverse, re-imagined catalogue of tunes, Constant Craving is a night about how music can help us find, and see, ourselves... how it can deeply inform, and define, the ways we might envision the world...

Think the music of Ani DiFranco, Toshi Reagon, Le Tigre, Tegan and Sara, Meshell Ndegeocello, Bitch and Animal, Joan Armatrading, Melissa Ethridge, folk-punk-ally Sinead O'Connor, Bikini Kill, The Indigo Girls and beyond...

This first iteration of the show will be a full-blown concert: A night of songs infused with sonic dyke herstory and queer context that transforms the personal into the expansive, alongside a couple of extra special guests...

Anyone remotely titillated by these myriad artists, anybody intrigued by counter-pop-culture and how it reflects us back to ourselves, anybody looking for a good-ass time (!!!), will enjoy this indie-rockin' night!

"The Liz Swados Project" Record Release

Jo will be featured as a soloist on the track “Souf” on the soon-to-be-released The Liz Swados Project album. It drops FRIDAY, MAY 22nd! And you will be able to find it on all streaming platforms, including Spotify! PRE-ORDER IT BY CLICKING HERE!

This record has been made in tribute to the visionary artist herself – and it features an epic tribe of diverse performers, composers and lyricists, who have been influenced and inspired by Elizabeth Swados as a performer, composer, lyricist, teacher, and trailblazer.

Featuring the world premiere recordings of 14 songs, the album is produced by Lauren Fitzgerald, Kris Kukul and Matt Stine, with Kurt Deutsch and Roz Lichter serving as executive producers. Kris Kukul, Ms. Swados’s longtime music director, provides orchestrations and arrangements.

The Liz Swados Project celebrates the Swados legacy with songs from 10 of her works for the stage sung by some of the most influential performers and composers in theater today. In the words of the late Michael Friedman, who studied under Swados, "Liz is in the DNA of my work." You can hear her influence in the work of this new generation of theatrical music makers, all of whom honor her with their recordings of her songs.

Each artist performs a selection in their unique style, ranging from Vaudeville-tinged chamber pop, contemporary blues, and haunting art songs, to raw indie rock, spare classical ballads and sweeping middle Eastern-inspired choral pieces.
